About

Who knew there would be more than one Scuffletown in Virginia? Apparently there are two, one in Northern Virginia and one in Southern Virginia, and at one time there was another in the Norfolk area. There are a good number of houses in there, but absolutely no services whatsoever, since the Scuffletown grocery store closed a while back. Not much else I can think about to say about Scuffletown.

about aspen virginia

Aspen is a Map Speck, of a place, not far from Brookneal Virginia, and I would love to live there. From what I could see there were 3 houses in the immediate area and the community center., which I think has had several previous lives. I would guess maybe 10 to 12 people live here from what I could see, and that is being very generous. One of the great things about Aspen is, almost zero cell coverage, which is one of the reasons I would love to live there.

This is my perspective, if you are from or live in or around Aspen, and I got something wrong, please let me know in the comments.

Humpback Bridge

Humpback Bridge

The humpback bridge dates back to 1857, and is Virginia’s oldest covered bridge. The bridge is located about three and a half miles west of Covington Virginia.

Wayside

The wayside around the bridge, with a couple benches and grassy areas is a nice place to relax, unless there is a passing freight train crossing the bridge 30 yards to the north, but if you like trains, it is a good place to watch trains from.

History

The current bridge is the forth bridge to be built here, with the previous 3 being lost to either fire or flood, and was in continuous use foe 72 years, from 1857 until 1929. The bridge was abandoned in 1929 after the construction of a wider steel bridge about 100 yards north, that bridge has been replaces at least twice that I am aware of

Been A While

Shortly after I took the pictures of Red House, my Drone stopped being a drone and became tree ornament in the middle of for lack f a better description a swamp. That being said it really took the wind out of my sails on this project for a while, and the fact that I have been insanely busy. well I have a new drone, and a new camera and lenses and I am ready to go…
